Hi, this is Monolith.

As of 2026, I live in Hakata, Fukuoka.

In this article, I’d like to introduce five specialty coffee shops around the Yakuin area that I personally visited and would happily go back to.

I chose these shops based on the following three points:

  • The coffee itself is delicious
  • The space feels comfortable and inviting
  • Even if the shop is popular, it is still relatively easy to spend time there in a relaxed way

Since this article is aimed at coffee lovers, I have excluded cafés where food is the main attraction.

I hope this helps if you are trying to decide where to get coffee around Yakuin.す!

Lonich, Fukuoka

A distinctive coffee experience where you can enjoy the latest brewing method

Lonich, Fukuoka is located in the Imaizumi area, about a 7-minute walk from Yakuin Station. It opened in October 2025 and is the brand’s second location after Tokyo.

The interior has a highly refined, minimalist atmosphere built around concrete and stainless steel. It feels a little different from the typical “relaxing café” and more like a space designed for you to focus on the coffee experience itself.

Most of the seating is at the bar counter, and when I visited, the barista brewed the coffee right in front of me.

True to its concept of “designing a coffee experience,” this place offers more than just a good cup of coffee. From the stage of choosing the beans to the conversation you have with the barista, the whole process becomes part of the experience. It really felt special.

The brewing method uses a relatively new device called the Paragon, which appeared around 2022. It works by rapidly cooling the coffee immediately after brewing with a chilled metal sphere, helping trap more of the coffee’s aroma.

They also offer a drink course by advance reservation, which seems like a completely different way to enjoy the shop compared with ordering a single drink. I would definitely like to try that next time.

Manu Coffee Roasters Kujira Shop

A classic Yakuin favorite with generous space and a very comfortable atmosphere

This café, which also has its own roastery, is located about a 2-minute walk from Yakuin Station. It is a popular local brand with three locations in Hakata as of April 2026, and roasting is done here at the Kujira branch.

The interior has a calm atmosphere with a nice balance of artistic character and playfulness. It has a strong Manu Coffee identity, yet still feels approachable and unpretentious.

Personally, I think this shop’s biggest strength is its spaciousness. The second floor is especially large, and from what I saw, it seemed to have enough seating for around 20 to 30 groups of one to four people. According to the official information, the shop has around 50 seats.

Yakuin is a popular area, so cafés can easily get crowded on weekends. Some places may even have lines, and even if you get in, it can be hard to truly relax. In that sense, Kujira stands out because its larger space makes it much easier to spend time there comfortably.

REC COFFEE Yakuin Station Shop

An easy place to enjoy one of Fukuoka’s best-known coffee brands in Yakuin

REC COFFEE is one of Fukuoka’s most famous coffee brands and is widely recognized in Hakata. As of April 2026, it has six locations in Fukuoka and two in Tokyo.

REC COFFEE Yakuin Ekimae is located on a main road about a 3-minute walk from Yakuin Station, so it is very easy to access.

My personal favorite here is the decaf latte. I really love the rich, deep milky flavor that lingers at the back of the tongue.

The rest of their coffee also leaves a strong impression on me. Overall, the texture feels smooth and mellow, making it easy to drink while still being satisfying. I like it so much that I actually use REC COFFEE beans at home as well.

REC COFFEE is also known for putting effort into its sweets, and the Yakuin Ekimae branch had a particularly good selection of cakes.

SHIROUZU COFFEE Kego Shop

A calm place to enjoy a carefully brewed siphon coffee

SHIROUZU COFFEE Kego is located about an 11-minute walk from Yakuin-Odori Station and a 9-minute walk from Akasaka Station. As of April 2026, SHIROUZU COFFEE has two locations: one in Kego and one in Minato.

The atmosphere inside feels slightly modern, while still casual enough to make stopping by feel easy and natural.

Their coffee is brewed using a siphon, and the beans are roasted in-house at the Minato branch.

According to the official description, the shop welcomes customers in a variety of situations, whether for solo coffee time or for work. That makes it especially friendly for people who want to work from a café. It is actually quite rare for a specialty coffee shop like this to have power outlets, so I personally really appreciated that.

COFFEE COUNTY Fukuoka

One of the most popular specialty coffee shops in the Yakuin area

COFFEE COUNTY Fukuoka is located about a 5-minute walk from Yakuin Station and is the brand’s second location out of four stores as of April 2026.

When it comes to specialty coffee in Fukuoka, this is one of the most famous names around. It can get crowded depending on the timing, but even so, the experience was good enough that I still wanted to include it here.

The shop itself is bright, and the staff make the whole place feel welcoming and approachable.

When I visited, the staff carefully guided each customer through the ordering process, and I was especially impressed by how you could smell the beans before making your choice. That sense that the act of ordering itself is enjoyable is, in my opinion, one of the shop’s biggest charms.

The gelato recommended by the staff was also incredibly good. Honestly, it was so good that it felt like they could open a shop just for the gelato alone.
